Swinging a baseball bat and golf club are unique, delicate arts that take years to perfect.

Somehow, Lake Braddock sophomore Kenny Towns has both skills down pretty well.

Less than four months removed from a dominant freshman year on the diamond, Towns won the Patriot District Golf Championship at Twin Lakes C.C. by a comfortable six-stroke margin over his nearest competitor, South County senior Steve Slocum.

“Before the golf season, I go out and play as much golf as I can to work on my golf swing,” Towns said. “And I do the same thing with baseball. I hit off the tee all I can and I do the same thing with baseball.”

Towns was one of four Bruins to finish in the top seven overall, allowing Lake Braddock to coast to the Patriot District team title.

“The key was hitting fairways, hitting greens and just staying focused,” said Towns, who finished 61st in the 2007 VHSL AAA state tournament as a freshman. “[It was] not worrying about my score, not going out there trying to win.”
